What To Do If You Feel Like You’ve Outgrown Your Brand

Brand Design

You know that feeling when you open your website, go to design a post for Instagram, or look at your current brand identity and think: “Ugh… this just doesn’t feel like me anymore.”

If that’s where you are right now, I want to lovingly say to you: You’re not behind. You’ve just outgrown where your business and brand currently are!

And that’s a good thing (believe me). It means that there’s growth, evolution, and big changes happening behind the scenes.

But it’s also important to remember that the solution to outgrowing your brand doesn’t always look like an immediate rebrand (coming from a brand designer, too…)

Sometimes it looks like finally being ready to be seen, fully and clearly. It looks like nervous system regulation work, like identifying where you’ve been hiding or selling yourself short. It looks like organizing your processes to better suit the lifestyle you want (helloooo automation).

A lot of the creative business owners I work with come to me after years of serving their people (extremely well, might I add).

They’re not beginners, they’re not lost, and they’re not flaky or inconsistent. They’re actually incredible at what they do. But the visual piece of their business? How they feel when they’re working in the business? Still looks and reflects a version of them from 3 or 5 or 7 years ago.

And that disconnect starts to feel heavy after holding it for awhile.

You’ve evolved, but your business hasn’t.

This is a common and pivotal moment a lot of clients come to me (and maybe you can relate to some of these as well):

  • You’ve refined your offers to really reflect the clientele you want to attract and what you love doing.
  • You know who you like to serve and the value you bring when serving these people.
  • You like the clients you work with, but something may still feel off about inquiries from time to time…

But when you look at the visual side of your business, the visuals still may feel too mushed together, unclear, or just… off. And when your brand identity doesn’t feel aligned, showing up just gets harder and harder. You second-guess, or hide, or start thinking, “Maybe I’m not ready yet.”, “Maybe I need another course or certification, and then I’ll feel ready…”, “I just need a rebrand and then everything in my business will be fixed.”

But what if the issue isn’t readiness, or a rebrand, or another course – what if your nervous system just hasn’t caught up to your growth yet?

What you really need is to shut off the noise of what you should be doing, or posting, or offering.

I logged off of Instagram on my phone, I unsubscribed from newsletters that didn’t feel aligned, I set boundaries for energetic drains. And my nervous system has begun healing.

My mind feels quieter, my intuition feels louder, and I feel more inspired to get back to the creative work that I love doing.

What you really need in this season of thinking is to shut off the noise of what you should be doing, posting, and offering.

It is then, and only then, that you can create a brand, a business, and a life that feels like that higher version of yourself.

Not louder, or more viral; not perfectly optimized for an algorithm. Just something that feels like slipping into a version of you that’s already been here, comfortable, healing, and ready to be seen.

When I think about how I want my client’s to be seen, that’s the intention behind Origin Stories (my newest offering)! They’re a one-of-a-kind brand aesthetics that are already infused with heart (and a pre-imagined aesthetic), yet refined with your input, and full of a nervous system regulating process that makes you feel seen, heard, and understood..

And if it feels like you’re not quite ready for a full brand overhaul, you can book a Brand Audit to begin uncovering ways to improve and feel more aligned in your brand.

You’re not behind. You’re just evolving, and now it’s time for your brand to catch up.

If you’re craving something softer, more intuitive, and still strategic, take a look at the available Origin Stories. Each story starts as a creative starting point, but the process is infused with intention. And we get to make it yours together.
