The benefits of professional web design for your business are almost endless. In this day and age, more and more people rely on online businesses and the faces of their websites while making the decision whether to purchase or not.

Does this sound like you? You have a business website or online store, but your online presence may as well be nonexistent. Your information is outdated, not drawing enough traffic at ALL, and to be honest, it’s pretty embarrassing when sharing with potential clients.

If so, it sounds like hiring a professional web designer is in your future.

Just a note: I don’t think every single business needs custom website design. I actually only recommend that businesses older than three years invest in custom website design. This is because as you begin your business, your target market and your goals and your vision are constantly changing. So to encourage someone to invest thousands of dollars into a custom design, when they’re most likely going to change that vision in a few years, feels counterintuitive.

When you need a semi-custom website or an entirely NEW website design, a professional website designer helps you get the job DONE and over with (whew!). However, before you even think about taking the DIY route, take a look at these five KEY benefits of hiring a professional web designer. (Strong hint to stay until the end because #5 is my favorite!)

Benefit #1: Consistency

When you are going the DIY route while designing your website, you are going to be looking at what all of your competitors are doing and trying to copy that. That ends up being a combination of a LOT of different aesthetics, designs, and just overall looking really choppy. Your website designer comes into working with you with a really strategic (but also creative) process. This results in consistency throughout your website and your overall brand identity. One of my favorite benefits of professional web design for your business is keeping it consistent. This builds trust and brand recognition.

Benefit #2: Increase Conversions (aka more customers=more money)

A professional website designer has spent hours diving through different educational programs that inform them of how to create a user experience that ends up with higher conversions. That being said, while investing in a professional website designer for your business, you are receiving years of education and expertise from them. They’re basically experts in effective conversions, and more conversions = more customers and then (eventually) = more money. I’m not saying that I guarantee a professional website design automatically increases your revenue. Heck, you cannot hire just anyone out there. When different pieces of your branding (i.e. copy, brand photos, content, client experience, etc.,) come together AND are communicated effectively, you have an audience full of raving fans that absolutely cannot wait to purchase from you.

Benefit #3: YOUR TIME

Chances are that you are not a professional website designer, and that’s totally OKAY! We started our businesses for a reason, because we are the only person that can do what we do AND how we do it. And we do it all so damn well. Leave it to a professional to do what they do best! Your time is valuable, and is better spent doing the things within your business that no one else can do.

Benefit #4: Being “Outside the Jar”

I always say the same thing to my brand design and website clients – how our businesses are our (metaphorical) jar. You don’t know what’s wrong with your business because you’re inside the jar of your business. And you (obviously) can’t read the label of your favorite pasta sauce when you’re inside of it, ya know? Thankfully, professionals are outside of your jar. They can see potential problems and solutions that you may otherwise not be able to recognize as quickly.

Benefit #5: Good design is an investment for a REASON

My business coach once told me, “how can you expect people to invest thousands in your services when you won’t invest in yourself?”. And that has stuck with me since we began working together one year ago. I LOVE this quote, because it really reminds me of the age old adage “it takes money to make money”. While this is not necessarily alwaysssss 100% true, I think like 95% of the time it IS true when it comes to the face of your branding and website.

When researching potential website designers for your business, make sure they’re a good fit aesthetically AND personality-wise. I cannot tell you the number of clients that I turn away because we are not a good personality fit. That is a huge determinant of working with someone. Overall, when you’re looking to hire website, designer, trust your gut and listen to your instincts.


I grabbed the numbers below from a LinkedIn study*. I’m gathering that having a poor website design has some devastating consequences. Let’s take a look at juuuust a few to prove my point:

  • 75% of consumers admit to making judgments on a company’s credibility based on its website design. (honestly me, whenever I’m searching for something online I will 100000% judge a company based off of it’s website).
  • 57% of internet users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly designed website on mobile. (just another emphasis that GOOD mobile design MATTERS SO MUCH).
  • 38% of people will stop engaging with a website if the content or layout is unattractive. (Enter in, a designer that emphasizes strategy AND design when creating your website).

I can go on and on about the benefits of professional web design for your business. It’s up to you to determine if investing in a professional website designer is right for you and your business right now.
